OSSAA Football Key Dates: 2026 Oklahoma Season Calendar

Practice start, Week 1, district play, playoff rounds and state championship weekend

Below is the season calendar for Oklahoma high school football, from the first day of fall practice through the state finals. Dates follow the OSSAA calendar and typical Friday-night scheduling; individual schools can differ, so check your team page for exact kickoffs.

2026 season milestones

  1. Fall practice opens

    OSSAA schools may begin official fall football practice. Heat-acclimatization rules apply for the opening days before full pads.

  2. Preseason scrimmage window

    Teams hold jamborees and controlled scrimmages against outside opponents ahead of Week 1.

  3. Week 1 kickoff

    The regular season opens statewide with non-district games at 7:00 p.m. Friday.

  4. District play begins

    Most classifications move into district games, which are the only results that count toward district standing and playoff seeding.

  5. Homecoming and midseason stretch

    The middle weeks of district play typically decide who controls their own playoff destiny.

  6. Regular season ends (Week 10)

    Final district games are played. District standings are set and the playoff field is determined.

  7. Playoff brackets released

    Seeds and first-round pairings are posted by class, with higher seeds hosting.

  8. Playoffs: first round

    Opening round of the OSSAA state playoffs across all 12 classifications.

  9. Playoffs: quarterfinals

    Round of eight in each classification.

  10. Playoffs: semifinals

    State semifinals, often played at neutral sites over Thanksgiving weekend.

  11. State championship games

    Title games for every class are played over two December weekends at OSSAA host sites.
