What the OSSAA is
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association governs high school sports across Oklahoma. For football it decides which class each school plays in, how districts are drawn, which teams reach the postseason and when the state championship games are played. The 12 classifications
Classes are set by enrollment and reassigned every two years. 6A-I holds the largest schools in the state; Class C is six-man football at the smallest. Pick a class to see its teams, districts and bracket.

How districts and scheduling work
Every classification is split into districts of roughly equal size, grouped by geography to hold travel down. Teams open with non-district games in late August and September, then play each district opponent once. Only those district games count toward district standing, which is what decides the playoff field.

Playoff qualifying and seeding
Playoff spots come out of district finish. District record sets the order, with head-to-head results and point differential breaking ties. Higher seeds host until the state final, and the bracket keeps the top two seeds on opposite sides so they can only meet for the title.

Season calendar
Fall practice opens in August, Week 1 kicks off in late August, and district play fills the back half of the regular season through early November. The playoffs run through November, with state championship games in early December. Nearly every game kicks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
